How We
Help

Helm offers counselling and other support services that can be accessed quickly, confidentially and without judgement

Power to Change Program

Unique to Helm, our Power to Change program is a series of 6 x 40-minute online sessions that provides targeted help for alcohol and drug use, and problematic gambling. Each session is one-on-one and guided by a counsellor of your choice, with activities to complete in between the sessions.

This program can be an important first step, especially if you’re not quite sure where to start.

The 6 sessions cost $50 each; a total $300 for the whole program.

What does it mean if a service is accredited to the National Safety and Quality Digital Mental Health Standards?

A government agency called the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care wrote the Digital Mental Health Standards to help people identify high quality digital mental health services. They worked with people who use digital mental health, mental health experts and industry to make sure that accredited services pay attention to the things that keep services safe.

An accredited service keeps your information private and they will ask for your feedback to make the service better. They also make sure their services are based on strong evidence.

A service gets accredited by an approved agency that has been trained to check for safety and quality issues. They check evidence to show the service meets the Digital Mental Health Standards so you can know that the service keeps people safe.

One-on-One Counselling

Counselling is a common type of support and is usually a series of 50-minute sessions, either face to face or online. It starts with an Initial Consult where you’ll work with a counsellor of your choice to discuss what you want to focus on and identify your goals. At this point, they will give you an idea of how many further sessions you’ll need to achieve the outcomes you’re looking for.

The cost of an Inital Consult is $160, while further sessions are $230 each, or you can buy bundles of 3 sessions for $180 per session.

If you’re interested in an online health service, we recommend InstantScripts. They have a team of Australian-registered GPs who can help patients access a Mental Health Care Plan.  This will be done during a 20-minute video consultation. If you’d like to find out more or book a consultation with one of their GPs, click here.
